what's happening here

December 06, 2001

i've been thinking a hell of a lot (obsessing?) about what i'm doing here, online, this blog, this site. i've been analysing my desire to journal publicly, the moral issues surrounding reportage, my strengths as a publisher/producer and my weaknesses as a designer, et al.

my conclusions? inconclusive.

i love writing. having a forum to share words is important to me. i also enjoy reading email, my logfiles, and the sites of those who've linked here or simply stopped by.

i'm having difficulty negotiating content. i don't like naming names. i just don't want to do it. if you recognise yourself here, that's good enough for me.

but what about attributions? quotation? when is it important to name names, to give credit where it's due?

i was thinking of changing this into a we-blog; everything writting in the first-person plural. we ate dinner... we went to the museum.... the advantages here: you get the sentiment, the value, the idea, and not the clutter of personality, the distraction of proper nouns.

how would i, then, differentiate characters? i was thinking of using primary-colored primatives: and and i went to 's house.... that could become confusing, though.

also, how to best feature my writing? how to track which poems are best received? what's wasteful web-publishing (there are 10,000 of these weblogthingies), and what's valuable? would the portal i build myself be beneficial to you? should i make samff.com for samf-f himself, and allow the world inside?

ideas must be vulnerable but i'm feeling a bit insecure. help. suggest.
