Signed, Sealed, and (Virtually) Delivered
April 07, 2003
Wow!
It’s done!
My Rabbinical School Application
is in a sealed envelope,
awaiting tomorrow’s post collection.
Someone, I’ve forgotten who, said
“think how relieved you’ll be when it’s done”;
they helped me hold that carrot out,
and I spent all of today
(in lieu of some other really fun stuff)
to finish these essays:
Essay A: Why The Rabbinate? — Discuss the path that has led you to apply for the rabbinate. Reflect on your own Jewish and personal growth in the context of this process (in 1000–1500 words!).
Essay B: a Jewish bookreport — Select a book, article or essay that you have read recently and that is related to Jewish life/culture. Discuss your reactions, impressions and opinions.
I am relieved indeed.
It’s been intense, but rewarding.
I’m not so concerned about the outcome
(of course, I’m hoping I get accepted),
but all along I’ve been really mindful to
enjoy the process. It’s been DIFFICULT,
you bet, but completely worthwhile.
Now I can get back to my life! :)
I’m working out new concepts for
sixthirteen.org —
I’m thinking of turning it into my
Judaica–related print and web design identity.
I could already include Bustan and Pharaoh’s Daughter.
I can’t wait to work more on those projects.
Bustan is doing amazing work, and I feel a bit remiss
in not helping them publicize it a bit more.
I also have to talk to the sofer about
getting my get.
I had an amazing tahara experience last week,
but I still feel a bit weird blogging about them.
It’ll have to remain in my pencil–journals
and in private conversations.
Kadosh kadosh kadosh
Kol Zimrah services on Friday night and
a new minyan in the Heschel building on Saturday
were both phenomenal.
David Ellison (sp?) gave a great d’var,
and Jan’s leading was exceptional.
I’m looking forward to our seder.
The May’an seder was great too.
So many (Debbie Freedman) tunes to recall.
And I’m going to help with special needs sederot in Riverdale on
ta’anit bechorot —
I think I’ll fast for the first time this year.
I learned, with Roly, that I don’t need to do
pidyon haben — my mother
is a bat lavie.
I’m not illigitimate after all! :)
A fun new Jew blog: jewschool.com
Wow. I had a backlog of things on my mind!
I’m relieved to have completed that app!
I should write thank yous to the people who wrote my recommendations at BJ, the JCC, and Heschel.
Am planing to wake early, B"H and go to an early morning shiva.
Then I have to a NYC Environmental Education Steering Committee mtg,
then I have to come home
and write my Solar Ner Tamid proposal —
GOSH I’m busy! :)
It’s great!
