Going Up
israel | April 23, 2004
I feel like I've been preparing to return to Eretz Yisrael for ten years. 1993 was the last time I was there, as a high school student, as a non-observant Jew, as an American-Israel Friendship League Youth Ambassador.
When I returned, my world crashed in on me, overwhelming and disorienting. Nothing made sense, or at least what was being taught in the classroom certainly didn't. In the path of the 60s' psychonauts I turned on, tuned in, dropped out.
Now, returning to the Land to learn, to celebrate, to explore again, I feel like I'm dropping back in, dropping up.
